We caught up with Jitendra Duffill, promoter for the Redcar Bears, to find out what is in store for the Season ahead.
The Redcar Bears & Cubs are a Speedway team based in Teesside. Erimus have been the main sponsors of the Redcar Cubs and the stadium’s pit area since 2017. We feel privileged to be involved in such a dynamic sport, speedway attracts talent from across the globe to Teesside. We work alongside many sports clubs in the area, but Speedway is certainly the most unusual!
After a tough year, with all matches postponed or cancelled, the team are eager to get back out on the track.
We can’t wait to get the gates open, thankfully a lot of our riders were able to find alternative work during the pandemic, but it will be great to get back to what we love.
The Redcar Bears are like one big family – riders, managers, and fans all mingle, and that is one of the fantastic things about speedway as a sport.
As long as Government guidelines don’t change, we are planning to start the Season mid-May.
We have done a lot of work at the stadium to make sure we a Covid-19 compliant, we have put up extra signage and invested in additional spectator space. It is important that people can come to the stadium and feel safe.
We surveyed our supporters to gauge how they felt about the season restarting, and only 20% were apprehensive, but they were still planning on attending. Its brilliant news for us as without fans coming to the matches, it would be financially impossible to keep things going.
We are extremely confident about the upcoming season, we are hoping to announce the full team in the next couple of weeks, it is safe to say our options are looking good.
With the full team yet to be announced, the Bears are keeping fans guessing as to who the final rider will be, “riders are understandably nervous about travelling due to Covid restrictions at the moment. So we have decided to sit tight for now and see what developments occur over the next few weeks”.
